Basil adds an herbal note to a traditional gimlet.
- 5 fresh basil leaves, cut into chiffonade*
- 2 ounces vodka
- 1-1/2 ounces fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- Ice cubes
- Lime slices
In cocktail shaker combine basil chiffonade, vodka, lime juice, and powdered sugar. Add ice cubes. Cover; shake vigorously until very cold and basil leaves are broken up. Strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with lime slices. Makes 1 cocktail.
*To make a chiffonade, stack basil leaves. Roll up leaves lengthwise, then cut leaves crosswise into small, thin slivers.
